Tradition and Transition (first posted - December 14, 2015)
This quiet moment before the evening begins is bittersweet as I realize that tomorrow is the last time we will be having Christmas dinner at our house. Our family is growing and our living room seems to be shrinking. Next year, we will be the ones with the quiet morning and we will be the ones bringing food to another house....or perhaps we will be somewhere warm.
It is a time of transition in our lives, as we reflect on this current stage we are in. Our kids are all completely capable of being on their own and they are all in happy, secure relationships. They are living their lives, remembering where they have come from and eagerly stepping into all that is ahead. And we must let them go, and part of that is relinquishing the responsibility of Christmas dinner to the next generation, a generation that is doing a fine job in creating their own traditions.
“....and it was always said of him, that he knew how to keep Christmas well, if any man alive possessed the knowledge. May that be truly said of us, and all of us!”
God bless us everyone.
